It's not the fourth day since I started, but it's Day 4 regardless, and a sci-fi action classic, The Terminator was on BBC3. It started slowly, and I several times considered turning it off, but in the end I really loved it.
I'm not usually a fan of action movies but the Terminator's killing was brilliantly ruthless, and Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese escaping by inches time after time was riveting.
The best moments were the ones that I recognised from being parodied elsewhere: "I'll be back"; the moment when the Terminator's red eye went out for the final time (coincidently, I couldn't watch when he took out his eye).
I worked out that Reese was John Connor's father before it was revealed at the end, it was pretty obvious, and the romantic moments between Kyle and Sarah were brilliant.
Overall, as I seem to be saying about every film, I really liked it. There may not have been the intellectual depth of Blade Runner but it was good at what it was.

Day 3 - Imagine Me And You
Movie night ended up being movie afternoon, as people went home before night began, and after seeing this film we noticed that it had been snowing, so out we went for snowball fights and snowman making.
So in the end we only saw one film, this chick flick about a woman who falls in love with another woman at her wedding (to a man).
The two women were a really cute couple, but it was hard not to feel sorry for the man when his wife left him for a woman at the end.
Overall, not one of my favourites so far, but I liked it.

Day 2 - About A Boy
Immediately after Miracle On 34th Street I started flicking channels, finding on ITV2 About A Boy showing, I'd missed the first 15 minutes but it didn't matter too much as I easily settled into the plot... trendy London bachelor suddenly finds he's been burdened with a kid that isn't even his. Enter Nicholas Hoult, about 5 years before he played Tony in Skins making his silver screen debut playing Marcus brilliantly opposite Hugh Grant's rich London lothario..
The film is literally un-stop-watchingable, the relationship between Marcus and Will develops brilliantly through the film and the ending is happy but not unrealistically happy. The soundtrack - written and composed completely by Badly Drawn Boy - is excellent and I now really want to read the novel (written by Nick Hornby).
Tonight is film afternoon/night/morning with a group of friends, I'm taking Fight Club (which I've already seen) and No Country For Old Men (which I haven't). Should be good, and expect about 12 blog posts tomorrow.

Day 2 - Miracle On 34th Street (remake)
Miracle On 34th Street is the sort of film which is only any good at Christmas. Any other time I'd say, Santa doesn't exist and this is a ridiculous reason for a court case. I'd also say that the ending was too perfect and that the film was generally a bit cheesy and predictable.
But... being that I watched it on a Sunday afternoon near Christmas I actually quite liked it. Richard Attenborough makes a great Santa and Mara Wilson (recognisable to anyone who has seen Matilda) is brilliantly cute as Susan. Susan's mother does get a bit annoying at times but Dylan McDermott is convincing as a brilliant lawyer.
All in all a good film for a Sunday afternoon before Christmas, and not to be over analysed, or the plot may start to fall apart

Day 1 - Blade Runner
Of course I had heard of Blade Runner, It's a cult classic and one of those films I had always assumed I should see. I was right.
This blog isn't intended to be about film reviews so I'll skip the part when they tell you the plot of the film. Partly because, the day after I watched it, I'm still not sure what was going on.
There were replicants (which I kept calling simulants because of Red Dwarf) which were the same as humans, some replicants who thought they were humans, and a truly heart strings pulling love affair between Rick and Rachael.
All I know was that it contained some brilliant but sparse dialogue, some brilliant performances and a constant battle between two sides of my mind as to whose side I was on. In the end, I, as the film, concluded that there didn't have to be any sides.
Visually the film (the final cut with some updated special effects and some changes to make it closer to Ridley Scott's vision) was spectacular, a dirty dystopian future rendered real.
My favourite scene was either when Rick killed Zhora and she fell through the glass, which was stunning visually or when Rick kisses Rachael for the first time (I think it was that scene when he entered while she was sleeping and I thought she was dead - I almost cried.)

A Cultural Philistine
I admit it. I am a bit of a cultural philistine. Pop culture especially, I don't watch any of the films that everyone else is watching. Or often listen to the music everyone else is listening to. TV I'm good at, but that's because I have a remote on my desk.
This blog is intended to be the vague ramblings of me ploughing through a lot of films I've never seen before. I haven't seen many films at all, and I should really change that.
So to begin last night I watched Blade Runner...
Disclaimer: Films will either be showing on the TV or (illegally) streamed on the internet. Don't judge me.
